While JAMB score is important, there are key things candidates applying for JAMB and choosing ABU need to know. Here are things you should know as an ABU aspirant sitting for JAMB in 2025/2026.
JAMB Subject Combination O-level Requirements
Having the right subject combination and required O-level requirement is paramount to securing admission in ABU. Ahmadu Bello University take subject combination and Olevel requirements very seriously.
Even if you have 390 in your JAMB UTME and do not have the correct JAMB subject combination your chance of getting admitted is almost zero, in some cases you may be admitted but during your physical screening when officials in the school go through your documents the wrong combination or deficiency is definitely going to be noticed which could then lead to your course been changed or your admission forfeit.
How to Choose the right Subject Combination

It’s recommended you check the requirements for the course you apply before you register for JAMB. But in case you already register, jamb allows the correction of the JAMB subject combination before the JAMB examination begins, if you found out that your combination I not correct ensure to visit any CBT center for correction.
In case of deficiency in a core O-level subject you can use a combine provide the course you apply allows two sitting(you can check that on the ABU brochure). Alternatively you can simply sit for another Olevel exam WAEC or NECO.
Correct Name on JAMB and OLevel
During candidates JAMB registration, some of the candidates credentials are automatically fetched from the the candidates NIN in which the name on your NIN usually the name that’ll be use on your JAMB. For some candidates the name on their nin have slight difference with what is on their OLevel.
This is a common occurrence and usually affects candidates after securing admission admission. Their Olevel may carry two names while JAMB result carries 3 names. Ahmadu Bello University usually don’t accept that if there’s misspellings in one name or JAMB and OLevel carries different name such candidates will need to correct the mistake before they are screened.
Solution
If it happens you come across this post after you’ve already registered for JAMB do not get disturbed, sit for your JAMB. After the JAMB UTME if you’ve passed the examination, go to any JAMB office to correct your name, correction of name is usually easier when someone have not been offered admission yet!
NB: some candidates will think of doing court affidavit, but ABU stopped accepting court affidavit in the 2024/2025 session. Candidates name on JAMB admission letter and OLevel must be same before a candidate is screened.
ABU Cut-off Mark
Ahmadu Bello University cut off mark is 180. Once a candidates reach the required cut off they are eligible for the school admission process.
However when applying for a competitive course such as those in the college of medical science, pharmacy, law, computer science etc a candidate will need a score higher in other to secure admission into their preferred course.
ABU doesn’t set a specific cut off mark for every course, the higher your score the better your chance of securing admission.
